With the economic climate and the pound weak against the Euro making UK holidays ever more popular, ‘STAY-cation’ could be the new vacation for the Summer of 2009. And what better way to enjoy the summer sun than to fire up the barbecue to entertain your family and friends?
Celebrity chef and author of best-selling book Barbecues and Grilling , Antony Worrall Thompson is often happiest barbecuing for his family and friends. His passion for outdoor cooking ensures that his attention to detail and experience helps him develop high quality, performance barbecues at affordable prices.
In fact, Antony’s 2008 barbecue range was received so well last season that sales increased by 50% on the previous year and his 22” Kettle Grill (SRP from £99.99 at Argos, Homebase, Wyevale Garden Centre, Robert Dyas, Freemans Grattan, Next and Amazon) was awarded the Which? Best Buy (July 2008) scoring highest among the 17 models tested.
“I am really proud that my 22” Kettle Grill won the Which? Best Buy accolade. It really is a simple yet effective barbecue for those who enjoy traditional charcoal barbecuing. Although we are continuing to produce some of our 2008 best-selling barbecues, we have also developed new models such as the portable grill for holiday fun and smaller 2-burner gas barbecues to whet the appetite of those who have yet to enjoy this popular pastime.”

Light the barbecue at least 30 minutes before you want to start cooking.
Try not to use firelighters as the smell tends to permeate into the food. Instead use newspaper, dry kindling and tapers. Never use petrol.
Once lit, leave the charcoal alone until the flames have burned out and you are left with grey matter in bright sunlight and a deep glowing red in the evening.
Organise your food in advance and prepare in advance. Lay out the food on manageable sized trays or platters and keep tools handy. Keep all meat and fish refrigerated but remove 30 minutes before you need to cook to aid cooking times.
Wipe off any marinade before placing over the fire to avoid drips that create flare-ups and burn the food and keep a water spray on hand to douse the flames.
Cooking with the lid down can shorten the cooking time by 25 per cent and also fragrance the food with the lovely smoky (not burnt!) quality that we associate with barbecues.
Remember if you have vents on the barbecue lid, closing them will slow down cooking whilst opening them will increase the temperature.
"thought I'd just tell you that this weekend, my partner bought one of Antony's bbqs - it was fantastic - it cooked our food brilliantly (I'm veggie so I only tested my paneer and veggie bits!) and, it looks very good indeed!"
